Canon Printer Pixma IP1000 - Waste Ink Tank Full Problem

But I just want to share my experience about this lovely printer XNU i320 from Canon?

Who is this for ?

• Owner of Canon Printer XNU i320, i350 series
• Owner of Canon Printer Pixma IP1000, IP1500, IP2200

I have used my Canon XNU i320 printer for quite some time ( more than 2 years ). I always buy compatible cartridges and refill ink because it’s economic and cheap. Apparently one day the printer stopped working and the LED is blinking with Orange flash. I thought it was paper jam or indication that printer is out of paper. When I tried to print, it displayed this error: “Waste Ink Tank Almost Full, Contact Your Canon Repair Center”…

If you query from Canon Repair Center, it will cost your bucks for the services. This is really sucks. And it is possible that you might end up being complained that you are not using original inks and cartridges, so they won’t fix for you…

Then I decided to google about this error. I found the solution from several websites and forum. Thanks to them, I can fix this printer and get it to run again.

Temporary Fix

This always works in case you need your printer for Emergency ^_^.

1. Turn off the printer
2. And unplug the printer power cable
3. Press and Hold the POWER button
4. Plug the power cable again
5. The indicator (LED) should be green
6. Press and Release the RESUME button, the indicator (L.E.D.) should be orange
7. Press and Release the RESUME button again, the indicator (L.E.D.) should be green
8. Release POWER button
9. Windows will detect new printer and you just have to install it again.
10. It will create a copy of Canon i320 printer. Just delete the old one and rename the copy.
11. You are done.

Remember that this fix is only temporary. Although it is possible in some occasion, it can fix for quite long time ( in my case, several weeks and the blinking occurs again every time you turn on the printer ).

(they_called_it) Permanent Fix

To be able to fix it permanently, we need to use i320 General Service Tool from Canon. (see Software Download Link below this post). I find it very difficult to get a working link for the tool since this printer is already outdated, but finally I managed to grab a working one.

General Tool from PrinterSiam website is only working in Windows 98SE/ME. But there are some General Tools posted in Russian website which is very small in size and can be run in Windows XP. From a rough translation using Systran, I guessed they have done reverse engineering/disassembly of the original tools from PrinterSiam website. I don’t read Russian

Step by step guides:

1. Finish the steps in Temporary Fix
2. Run GeneralTool.exe
3. Choose USB Port : USBPRN01
4. Click on “Set Destination” to 1
5. There is no confirmation box or whatever, but to be safe Click it 2 or 3 times ( like what I did ^_^ ).
6. Restart your printer.
7. Done.

I hope this post will be useful for those who are using Canon printers. Don’t give up on your printers yet before google-ing!

Known Errors

IceBrandZero said this error “I/F DLL can not be loaded.” means the printer driver is not installed properly.
